Step 1: Let Them Explore

This should be placed flat on the floor or at its lowest height, allow your pup to sniff it and investigate freely. You shouldn't rush them here as this helps the ramp feel familiar and non-threatening.

Step 2: Use Gentle Encouragement

Dogs love encouragement treats, praise, or their favourite toy. You can start by rewarding them for simply stepping onto the ramp even one paw is progress and don't forget to speak calmly and positively as your confidence helps them to feel safe.

Step 3: Start Low & Build Gradually

You should start with the lowest height setting so the incline feels easy and natural, once your dog is comfortable walking up and down, you can gradually adjust the height to match your sofa or bed. There’s no need to rush here as some dogs take a few tries, others take a few days.

Step 4: Let Them Set The Pace

You should never force your furry friend onto the ramp, instead allow them to move when they’re ready as the non-slip surface gives them secure footing, which helps build confidence naturally. Dogs are very smart and they will quickly realise the ramp feels safer than jumping.

Step 5: Reinforce Confidence

You can re-enforce their calm, confident use for the first few days by rewarding them for use as before long your furry friend will begin using the ramp independently, often choosing it over jumping on their own.
